"The Other Woman"

"The Other Woman" is one of this summer's hottest comedies.  It kind of reminded me of John Tucker Must Die, but with a better cast. "After discovering her boyfriend is married, Carly soon meets the wife he's been cheating on. And when yet another affair is discovered, all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on the three-timing SOB." They just plot revenge against him in this hilarious adapatation of a movie thats been done a thousand times.

"The Wizard of Oz"-1939 Film

The 1939 hit "The Wizard of Oz"  is a musical fantasy in which Judy Garland plays a girl who is dreaming she is trapped inside a tornado and she is "transported" to a magical realm where she meets the personified versions of courage, and bravery, in the Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion  Trying to defeat evil has never been easier with friends like courage and bravery by Dorthy's side. "The Wizard of Oz" was   also the first movie that was produced in Technicolor. It also taught us the importance of knowing where you come from and where you've been and to never forget to imagine and dream all the time.

"Captain America II- The Winter Soldier"

"Captain America II: The Winter Soldier" had a lot of action in it, a lot more than the first installment, But basically it was about Steve Rogers (Captain America) dealing with the fact that he indeed was in the 21st century and that they had saved another from his time period, his best friend Bucky Barnes a Sergeant in the 107th infantry as we see in flashbacks from the first movie throughout this one. But it turns out- Hydra- the Nazi regulated regime that was originally headed by  Johann Schmidt (Red Skull) is back and in full swing, covertly of course,  along with some agents of Shield - the very same organization that had thawed Cap out in "Captain America : The First Avenger" so not only does Steve have The Winter Soldier on his radar but now he has to defend Shield from the inside.

The Winter Soldier was created by Hydra as their main weapon of defense, I like to think of him as an evil Captain America, They knew that Steve would remember his childhood friend and so they wiped all of Bucky Barnes' memories of Steve and implanted him with fake memories but near the end The Winter Soldier keeps having relapses in his memories- of Steve and their times together in the Army. So naturally he becomes confused and disoriented and angry.

Much like  the Captain- but Steve  ends up dealing with Hydra the only way he knows how- by kicking ass. With the help of Black Widow and Falcon of course.

Harold Ramis

Harold Ramis was a well known producer who died on February 24th 2014, his achievements include  -the actor, writer director of such films as "Groundhog Day", "Stripes"and "Ghostbusters" Ramis will be missed as a great addition to those that were taken from us too soon. Ramis  died from complications concerning an auto-immune disease that had plagued him for many years, he co-wrote and sometimes even wrote such comedies as  "National Lampoon's Animal House", "Analyze This" and "Caddyshack" He is one of the most influential people in the world of comedy and he will surely be missed. Ramis was known for his notable contributions to comedy. His high school alma mater is  honoring  his memory by naming the theater after him. Which is extremely fitting given his contributions to the world  of comedy and theatre.

"Sherlock Jr." Buster Keaton

"Sherlock Jr." is a story about a moving picture  operator  who fancies himself  amateur "detective" who is set on winning the heart of a woman who doesn't know that the man who is courting her is a lying, cheating, scoundrel. Buster Keaton plays the "detective" who has no luck solving the case of the missing pearl necklace, he tries to uncover the mystery of the Cad and why everything is going missing, but he eventually catches "The Cad" in the act, but all the evidence seems to pin him to the crimes he tries to solve. The Girl in question, is stunned to find out that all the evidence stacks up against the amateur "detective" because of his sweet disposition. The girl soon  finds out that the suitor that has been courting her is really a mischievous, conniving individual and that she should have believed the detective with the nice disposition.

I believe this film - which was completely silent, captured the essence of Buster Keaton's comedy. It was very physical and very entertaining. But I believe it had a good moral to the story, don't always trust anyone just because they perceive themselves as something society wants to see. They could surprise you and it's not always a good surprise.

"Cargo"

"Cargo" Short film

The movie opens with a man coming to from what was most likely a dizzy spell he is inside of a car, and he sees a silhouette of a woman, who was most likely (at one point), his wife. But she has turned into a zombie when he looks closer and tries to attack him. He manages to escape and he tries to get something out of the backseat but he fails and runs away, presumably to find something to break the window with. the screen fades to black for a minute displaying "Cargo" as the title. Cut to a man holding a crying baby in his arms and looking at a wound on his arm, he grabs a permanent marker and writes on his arm "3 Hours" probably before the infection sets in. and he starts walking with his daughter on his back, to find shelter for her, we then see him collapse on the ground and see him try to fight off the infection, but eventually his walking slows and, what once could have been words, come to a growling, pained moaning way of speech (as most Zombies tend to have). We see the father/daughter combo then joined by three other survivors who kill the "walker" dad before he even has a chance to get the child to safety. We see a college age girl gather the infant in her arms, as if sensing the struggle of the father to stay as lucid as he possibly could for his daughter, the "movie" ends as the woman walks away with the crying baby in her arms.

It was very interesting to see that short film play out with no dialogue, it takes a lot of skill to be able to do that as a director in a movie. I thought it was very well done indeed. It did succeed in giving me the creeps for awhile there.

"Better than chocolate"

"Better than chocolate"

This movie is by far my favorite, it follows Maggie a closeted lesbian as she settles into her new life in Vancouver, there she meets Kim an out and proud lesbian, and the two start a relationship. Unfortunatley something Kim was not expecting shows up and disrupts their "honeymoon phase" Maggies mother. So as Maggie struggles to come out to her family, Kim struggles with not having a place to live and lives out of her van, and finally gets so fed up with Maggie waiting to tell her mother Kim eventually leaves. Then someone tries to blow up the bookstore where Maggie works, which is, evidently a gay bookstore, and her mother finds out and Kim comes back when she hears about the explosion to make sure Maggie is okay the two of them make up and end up kissing in the street as her mother watches. I love this movie because it has merit in the gay and lesbian community, because it teaches people in the community not to be afraid of themselves or their sexuality. Furthermore the people that we think will be shocked by our admission, can surprise us by being accepting.
